Designed to deliver the individual appeal of a lounge chair with the versatility of a modular seating system, Striad Sofas support the evolving needs of modern life. Their layered construction achieves the ideal mix of structure and premium comfort.
To create the Striad [Settee, Sofa] (2020), Herman Miller partnered with German designers Markus Jehs and Jürgen Laub, who’ve been creating innovative furniture, lighting, and interiors – including Suite Sweden’s 606 Icehotel and a master concept for Mercedes-Benz showrooms – since founding their Stuttgart studio in 1994. In everything they do, Jehs and Laub are dedicated to staying true to form, materials, and function. “How a design looks should not be far from what it does,” says Jehs. “Function brings its own aesthetic.” Case in point: The form of Striad stems from its makers’ goal to deliver unbelievable comfort. To achieve it, they designed it in layers, like a ski boot. It has a rigid outer shell for stability, a soft inner shell that’s molded to cradle the human body, and perfectly positioned cushions for ergonomic support. Together, the layers deliver an experience of supple, total-body repose in a timeless, graceful form.
