Harry Bertoia Collection

Harry Bertoia was an Italian-American sculptor whose furniture work for Knoll — the Diamond Chair and Bertoia's broader wire-seating collection, introduced in 1952 — treated furniture as sculpture as much as function, using bent and welded steel wire to create seating that appears visually weightless while remaining structurally sound. Bertoia himself considered the chairs "mostly made of air," a description that still holds.
