Mies van der Rohe

Mies van der Rohe Collection

Ludwig Mies van der Rohe designed the Barcelona Chair for the 1929 Barcelona International Exposition, and Knoll has manufactured it since 1953 using the architect's original specifications — a design so closely tied to modernist architecture that it's difficult to separate the furniture from Mies's broader "less is more" design philosophy.

Alteriors is an authorized Knoll dealer, carrying authentic Mies van der Rohe-designed furniture for Canadian homes and design projects. The Barcelona Chair is among the most reproduced pieces in furniture history, and genuine Knoll construction — correct leather, precisely welded stainless steel frame, and hand-tufted cushions — differs substantially from the mass-produced copies widely available online.

Our team can help confirm current leather and finish options. Select Mies van der Rohe furniture is on display in our Ottawa showroom, genuinely worth seeing in person given how much frame precision and leather quality distinguish an authentic piece. We ship authentic Mies van der Rohe designs across Canada.
