Privacy Policy
Privacy Policy
Effective date: August 12, 2026
Alteriors Contemporary Furniture Inc., operating as Alteriors, respects your privacy. This policy explains what personal information we collect, how we use and share it, and the choices you have. It applies to alteriors.ca, our showroom, and any contact you have with us by phone, email, text, or in person.
We handle personal information in accordance with Canada's Personal Information Protection and Electronic Documents Act (PIPEDA) and applicable provincial privacy legislation. Our Privacy Officer is accountable for our compliance and can be reached at info@alteriors.ca or +1 (613) 722-1661.
1. What We Collect
-
Contact and order details — name, email, phone and mobile number, billing and shipping address, items purchased, configuration selections, quotes, and order history.
-
Account details — your login email and an encrypted password, if you create an account.
-
Payment details — processed directly by our payment provider. Alteriors does not store full credit card numbers.
-
Trade Program applications — business name, trade registration number, website, address, employee count, and any credentials you upload.
-
Communications — emails, texts, chat messages, appointment requests, and design consultation notes.
-
Website usage — collected automatically: device and browser type, IP address and approximate location, pages and products viewed, cart activity, referring site, and cookie identifiers.
We also receive payment authorization results from our payment provider, delivery updates from carriers and manufacturers, and aggregated campaign data from advertising and analytics platforms.
2. How We Use It
-
Fulfilling your order — processing purchases and quotes, confirming configurations with manufacturers, arranging delivery and installation, and handling returns, damage, and warranty claims.
-
Customer service, design assistance, showroom appointments, and account management.
-
Administering the Trade Program and applying trade pricing.
-
Marketing, with your consent — see Section 4.
-
Understanding how our site is used, and measuring and delivering advertising.
-
Preventing fraud, enforcing our terms, and meeting tax, accounting, and other legal obligations.
We collect, use, and disclose personal information only for purposes a reasonable person would consider appropriate, and we obtain your consent where the law requires it.
3. Who We Share It With
We do not sell your personal information. We share it only as needed, with:
-
Shopify, which hosts our online store and processes order and site data on our behalf.
-
Our payment processor, under PCI-DSS standards.
-
Manufacturers and suppliers, to produce and ship made-to-order pieces.
-
Shipping, freight, and white-glove delivery partners, to schedule and complete your delivery.
-
Our email and SMS marketing platform, for the communications you have subscribed to.
We may also disclose information where required by law or court order, in connection with a sale or reorganization of the business, or at your direction — for example, to coordinate with your designer or building management.
4. Cookies, Email, and SMS
Cookies
Our site uses cookies and similar technologies to keep your cart and checkout working, remember preferences, measure performance, and support advertising. When you first visit, our cookie banner lets you accept or decline non-essential cookies, and you can change your choice at any time through our cookie settings. You can also manage cookies through your browser. Blocking some cookies may affect how parts of the site work.
Email and SMS marketing
We send commercial messages in accordance with Canada's Anti-Spam Legislation (CASL), and only where you have consented or we are otherwise permitted, such as following a recent purchase.
-
Every marketing email includes an unsubscribe link.
-
For text messages, reply STOP to unsubscribe or HELP for assistance. Standard carrier message and data rates may apply, and message frequency varies.
-
Marketing consent is optional — you are never required to accept it in order to purchase.
Withdrawing marketing consent does not stop transactional messages such as order confirmations, production updates, and delivery notifications, which we must send to complete your order.
5. Security, Retention, and Storage
We protect personal information with physical, organizational, and technical safeguards, including encrypted connections, access limited to staff on a need-to-know basis, and vetted providers bound by confidentiality obligations. No method of transmission or storage is completely secure, so please use a strong, unique password and keep it confidential.
We keep personal information only as long as necessary for the purposes described here or as required by law — order records for as long as needed to support warranty, service, and tax obligations; account details while your account is active; marketing contacts until you unsubscribe. When information is no longer required, we securely delete or anonymize it.
Some of our providers store or process information outside Canada, including in the United States, where it may be accessible to that country's courts and authorities under its laws. We select providers offering comparable protection and bind them contractually to safeguard your information.
If a breach occurs that creates a real risk of significant harm, we will notify affected individuals and the Office of the Privacy Commissioner of Canada as required by law.
6. Your Rights
Subject to legal limits, you may access the information we hold about you, correct it, withdraw consent to marketing or other non-essential uses, request deletion where we are not required to keep it, or complain about how we have handled it.
Contact us at info@alteriors.ca or +1 (613) 722-1661. We will respond within 30 days and may ask you to verify your identity first. If you are not satisfied with our response, you may contact the Office of the Privacy Commissioner of Canada at priv.gc.ca or 1-800-282-1376.
7. Children and Third-Party Links
Our website and products are intended for adults, and we do not knowingly collect personal information from children. If you believe a child has provided us with information, contact us and we will delete it.
Our site may link to manufacturer websites, social media, and other third-party pages. We are not responsible for their privacy practices, and we encourage you to review their policies.
8. Changes and Contact
We may update this policy from time to time. The effective date above shows when it was last revised, and we will take reasonable steps to notify you of any material change.
