Bocci 84.37 Cluster Thirty Seven Pendant Light

84.37 is a cluster configuration of thirty-seven 84 pendants hung from a round canopy. The drop lengths of the pendants are randomized between a client specified range of heights to variously cluster and scatter. The result is an ambient installation or field of light.

A white glass bubble is captured inside a fine copper mesh basket and then plunged into hot clear glass. Air is blown into the matrix to gently push the white glass through the mesh, creating a delicate pillowed form that is suspended inside the thick outer layer of clear glass. Sometimes the copper mesh basket folds and crinkles, adding specificity to each piece.

Omer Arbel

Jerusalem, 1976

Omer Arbel graduated from the University of Waterloo’s School of Architecture in 2000, and, after apprenticeships with several architectural companies, founded Omer Arbel Office, a Vancouver-based design practice, in 2005. The practice produces designs for buildings, objects, furniture, lighting and electrical accessories.

Arbel is also the creative director of the manufacturing and design company, Bocci that produces cast glass lighting features. Cast glass is an organic process, imperfect by nature and each piece is hand made to the client’s specifications. Bocci is now featured in buildings and homes worldwide and has won several high profile international design awards.
