Nanimarquina Herb Rug

The Herb collection stems from a deep admiration for nature and a great respect for fibres in their pure state. Made entirely with hand-spun hemp, each rug boasts all the benefits of this little known, but incredible, vegetable fibre. Resistant, durable, lightweight, and with an unbeatable thermal insulation, Herb is the coolest option for hot summers, and a source of heat in the middle of winter.

The collection presents a design in simple colours yet at the same time with character, which minimalists will surely appreciate. The discontinuity in the thickness of the fibre is a direct result of the hand-spun hemp, influencing both the fabric and the irregular dyeing. This is a rug filled with vibrant life since the shine of Herb’s hemp will evolve over time.

This fibre presents natural antibacterial properties, is biodegradable and free of toxins, as no harmful chemicals are used during cultivation. For this reason, Herb becomes the maximum expression of nature itself.

Nani Marquina

Spain, 1952

Elena Marquina, known as Nani Marquina, was born in Barcelona in 1952. After studying industrial design at the Massana School in Barcelcona, she started working with the architects Sellés-Marquina in 1973. In 1984 she made her first carpets and decided to devote herself to carpet design and set up her company, Nanimarquina, two years later. By 1988 some of her carpet creations were being exported to Germany and Japan. A year later one of her collections was selected for the shop at the Museum of Modern Art in New York.

A superb colorist Marquina finds inspiration not only in nature but also in the challenge of creating something that hasn’t been done before. The designer is also a firm believer that a rug must surprise and captivate but never be too aggressive. The result is her striking depth in materials, ranging from low pile to long strands of felted wool to die-cut rose petals.

Nani Marquina is known internationally for her textiles and rugs, which have been exhibited in New York, Paris, Milan, Berlin, Osaka and Tokyo.
